Aftercare Instructions
When to Remove Wrap
Plastic Wrap: Leave on for 1-4 hours. For the first night, you can re-wrap your tattoo with fresh plastic wrap to prevent it from sticking to your sheets. Gently wash the tattoo before wrapping, but don't use lotion yet. Remove the wrap in the morning, begin the aftercare instructions, and do not wrap again.
Saniderm: Leave on for 2-3 days. Remove slowly under running water. Remove earlier if there is redness around the boarder of the wrap or excessive liquid underneath the wrap.
Recommended Care Items
Antibacterial Unscented Soap (Orange Dial Hand Soap)
Unscented Lotion (Lubriderm) or Ointment (A&D Ointment)
Daily Care Instructions
Once the wrap has been removed, wash gently with soap and water twice daily for at least two weeks. After washing, pat the tattoo dry (preferably with paper towels) and apply a thin amount of either lotion or ointment.
What to Avoid
Do not submerge the tattoo in water for at least two weeks (no pools, beach, baths, etc.).
No direct sunlight for at least two weeks. Sunlight can cause damage to the tattoo and increase the risk of fading or blurred lines.
Do not apply sunscreen until the tattoo is fully healed.
Avoid excessive sweating. If sweaty, pat dry and wash as soon as possible. It is not recommended to participate in activities that cause sweating while wearing the Saniderm bandage.
Take lukewarm showers. Avoid scalding hot water as it will hurt and can also fade the ink.
Scabbing and itching is normal, but avoid picking, scratching, or peeling to prevent infection or damage to the tattoo.
What to Look For
Your tattoo is considered healed when the skin is no longer raised, dry, or scabby. This process takes an average of two weeks, but it’s possible it could take longer. Signs of infection include prolonged tenderness, pain, swelling, pus, or fever. You may want to contact your doctor if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
